On May 1, 2009, PHAC/CIHR announced funding of $10.8 million over three years for an Influenza Research Network,
a pan-Canadian vaccine research network that will conduct applied public health research in preparation for and during an influenza pandemic. An additional $2.7 million over three years was announced August 27, 2009, to accelerate planning and have procedures in place to evaluate the pandemic vaccine.
The Network is a resource for the Public Health Agency of Canada, other federal and provincial agencies and vaccine manufacturers. It provides timely information on the safety and effectiveness of the pandemic influenza mass immunization program. This information assures Canadians that the public health immunization response to the pandemic is safe, effective, and reaching all segments of the population who require it.
